Part 4 of 7 of the Seahawks player grades from the Chargers game. QuarterbacksOffensive Linemen and Running Backs have already been posted. This is a series that will go position by position, player by player evaluating the single game performance of the players on the Seahawks roster.

Tight End looks like a strong position for the Seahawks on paper but outside Anthony McCoy they left a lot on the table and plenty room for improvement.

Tight End

1) Anthony McCoy (B+)

Anthony was in the line up more than most of the players on thursday. He lined up in 47% of the teams offensive formations.

the good:

He did a nice job in run block duties and showed the ability to seal the edge. He was doing a nice time finding the soft spots in the zone coverage and sitting down giving the quarterback a big target and safe place to throw the ball. In the fourth quarter he kept working to get open while Josh Portis was scrambling and Josh found him in the back of the End Zone for the game tying TD.

THE BAD:

There really aren’t any he played a fairly clean game and didn’t have any big issues in the game.

2) Dominique Byrd (C+)

Dominique is competing with Cameron Morrah (Did not play) for the 4th TE position.

THE GOOD:

He did a nice job finding the soft spot in the zone.

THE BAD:

He needs to do more if he hopes to win the job from incumbent Cameron Morrah.

3) John Carlson (C)

With all the labor uncertainty in the NFL there were a lot of things John had to worry about in the offseason. Being number two on the depth chart by the time the preseason began probably wasn’t one of them. Less then a week after the two sides agreed on a new CBA thats exactly where he found himself. Carlson was in on 33% of first team offensive play while newly signed Zach Miller was in 100%.

4) Zach Miller (C-)

Like Tarvaris Jackson, Zach only had a handful of days to practice with his new team. Unlike Tarvaris he was also learning a brand new passing offense.

THE GOOD:

He got out of the game without getting injured.

THE BAD:

He had a little trouble in the run game which i would attribute to being rusty. He should know the blocking system since it is controlled in Seattle by his former head coach Tom Cable.
