Seahawks Player Grades

Offensive Line

1) Russell Okung (B)

Russell Okung blocking for Marshawn Lynch

Last week C+

THE GOOD:

Russell was solid in the passing game and running game all day. He several nice blocks including a cut block and blocking own the field.

THE BAD:

He did lose one of his run blocks and was called for unnecessary roughness for hitting a guy while he was on a pile. Personally I love the nasty attitude and can’t be too hard on him for it.

2) Robert Gallery and Max Unger (B-)

Last week: Robert A- and Max led the line with an A

THE GOOD:

Gallery had several nice blocks including a cut block on a screen pass and a couple pancakes. He showed athleticism blocking downfield and they both had nice blocks on the 20 yard Justin Forsett touchdown. Unger did a nice job getting to the second level and had a couple pancake blocks.

THE BAD:

Unfortunately Robert also struggled on several play. He was unable to seal the lane a couple times, was pushed into the backfield on one play and on one play him and Max Unger were doubling a defender and they couldn’t block him. He also lost a block in the passing game that led to a quarterback pressure and a false start. Max was unable to get outside to block for a screen pass on one play and struggled a little in the running game losing a few of his blocks including a play that led to a tackle for a loss.

4) Breno Giacomini (C+)

He is new to the line up this week replacing James Carpenter

THE GOOD:

He had several really good blocks in the running game getting push at the line, sealing lanes and picking up a pancake. He also had a big block to spring Justin Forsett on his touchdown.

THE BAD:

He missed a cut block and struggled in the passing game giving up a couple quarterback pressures including one on the second interception. He also got the quarterback hit and gave up a sack.

5) Clint Gresham (D+)

Last week C

THE GOOD:

It was a rough day for the usually reliable Gresham.

THE BAD:

He allowed a blocked punt and was called for holding.

6) Paul McQuiston (D-)

Last week C+

THE GOOD:

He had a pancake block and did a nice job sealing a running lane. He has a couple nice run blocks and a couple pass blocks including one where he showed a lot of awareness when McQuistan lost his pass block and he went over to help him to avoid the sack.

THE BAD:

Paul was unable to seal 3 running lanes, lost his run block on several occasions and was pushed into the backfield. He had a bogus false start penalty where he was reacting to the pass rusher jumping the snap but he also was called for a legitimate false start and a hold.

Seahawks Linebacker and Defensive Back Grades Regular Season Game 2011-9

Seahawks Player Grades Vs. Ravens

Linebacker

1) David Hawthorne (B+)

Last week C

THE GOOD:

David had a quarterback pressure, a quarterback hit, a pass defensed and an interception that he almost returned for a touchdown.

THE BAD:

He missed a tackle.

2) Leroy Hill (B-)

Last week he led the linebackers with a B

THE GOOD:

Leroy did a nice job shooting the gap on a running play. He had a quarterback pressure, a pass defensed and a nice open field tackle.

THE BAD:

He had a couple issues in coverage. He lost track of Ed Dickson on one play and fell down on another.

3) Malcolm Smith (C+)

Last week D+

THE GOOD:

Malcolm had a quarterback pressure and a sack.

THE BAD:

On the Ravens final touchdown he was in position but never looked back to try to find the ball.

4) KJ Wright (C)

Last week C

Cornerback

1) Richard Sherman (B+)

Last week he led the CB’s with a B

THE GOOD:

Sherman had really good coverage most of the game and broke up 3 passes.

THE BAD:

He fell behind Torrey Smith on a deep rout but luckily the ball was overthrown. In the two minute defense Richard let the receiver get out of bounds to stop the clock. This is a rookie mistake and a very coachable moment.

2) Brandon Browner (B-)

Last week C

THE GOOD:

Browner had a nice block on a punt return and almost had an interception but Earl Thomas ran into him. Brandon also broke up another pass later in the game.

THE BAD:

He got called for pass interference but it was a really bad call in my opinion.

3) Byron Maxwell (C+)

Last week D

THE GOOD:

Byron forced the second fumble in kick coverage.

THE BAD:

He over ran a play on punt coverage.

4) Roy Lewis (D-)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Lewis had a rough game. Hopefully he is just breaking off some rust.

THE BAD:

He took a bad angle on one play and wasn’t able to get in position to make a tackle. He dropped an interception that squirted through his hands and was caught by the receiver. Then he was called for holding and illegal contact.

Safety

1) Atari Bigby (B-)

Last week C

THE GOOD:

He recovered the second kick that the Ravens fumbled.

THE BAD:

He was injured during the game.

2) Earl Thomas and Chris Maragos (C+)

Last week Earl got an A- and Chris wasn’t graded

THE GOOD:

Thomas made a couple nice open field tackles and had a pass defensed. Maragos was able to fight off a blocker and still make a tackle inside the 20 on a kick return.

THE BAD:

Earl was pancaked and he missed a tackle.

4) Kam Chancellor (C)

Last week D+

Seahawks Defensive Line Grades Regular Season Game 2011-9

Seahawks Player Grades

Defensive Line

1) Chris Clemons (B+)

Last week B

THE GOOD:

Chris pressured the quarterback 4 times, one of which he had an amazing jump off the ball and was in the backfield before the Tackle could react. He also had a couple quarterback hits and did a good job in pursuit on a screen play.

THE BAD:

On the first end around he lost outside contain when he crashed down to support the run. Clemons got pancaked and called for offsides.

2) Red Bryant and Brandon Mebane (B-)

Last week: Red B- and Brandon B

THE GOOD:

Bryant was able to fight off blockers to make a tackle for a short gain and had a couple quarterback pressures. Mebane held strong at the point of attack when he was double teamed and was doing a good job collapsing the middle of the pocket.

THE BAD:

On third and short when the Ravens ran a quarterback sneak they both were blown off the line and the quarterback picked up the first easily.

4) Alan Branch and Anthony Hargrove (C+)

Last week: Alan led the line with an A and Anthony had a C.

THE GOOD:

Branch had a big hit on Ricky Williams and had good backside pursuit on another play. Hargrove had a nice block on a kick return, a quarterback pressure and a quarterback hit.

THE BAD:

Alan fell down rushing the passer on one play. Anthony missed a tackle on a sack and was called for offsides.

6) Raheem Brock and Clinton McDonald (D)

Last week: Raheem B- and Clinton C

THE GOOD:

There is nothing good to say about either player this week.

THE BAD:

Brock was penalized for being offsides twice. Clinton got called for illegal hands to the face and got a personal foul for ripping a players helmet off.

Seahawks Wide Receiver and Tight End Grades Regular Season Game 2011-9

Seahawks Player Grades

Wide Receiver

1) Ben Obomanu (B+)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Ben recovered the first fumble while covering the kick off and was smart just to stay down and not risk fumbling the ball himself trying to get up. He made another big play covering kicks when he flew down the field and made a tackle short of the 20 yard line. Obomanu fought back to the quarterback to make a catch for a first down.

THE BAD:

That first down catch for 10 yards was his only reception of the game.

2) Sidney Rice (B-)

Last week he led the team with a B+

THE GOOD:

Sidney had a nice block for Zach Miller after Miller caught the ball. On a third down play he made a nice diving catch but unfortunately he was just short of the marker.

THE BAD:

He only had 14 yards receiving for the game.

3) Doug Baldwin (C+)

Last week B

THE GOOD:

Doug had a 50 yard reception in the game.

THE BAD:

Unfortunately that was his only reception and he would leave the game later with an injury.

4) Golden Tate (C-)

Last week he was not graded

THE GOOD:

Tate made an excellent catch on the sidelines.

THE BAD:

Golden fumbled the ball but was lucky it went out of bounds because there were no Seahawks around to recover it if it had stayed in. He was called for illegal motion because he didn’t get set before the snap.

5) Mike Williams (D+)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

I just can’t spin anything good here.

THE BAD:

He was targeted on a hitch and waited for the ball to come to him instead of fighting back towards it. Because he did this the defender was able to get around him and break up the pass. In an altercation he was the last player to shove the opposition and got himself a personal foul. The call was pretty weak but he should have kept his cool.

Tight End

1) Zach Miller (B+)

THE GOOD:

Zach had a nice backside cut block and a few other nice blocks in the running game. He pushed the pile at the end of runs to help the running back gain every yard they could. Miller did a nice job sitting down in the soft spot in the zone.

THE BAD:

He missed a cut block.

2) Anthony McCoy (D+)

THE GOOD:

Anthony pulled out this superman Esq block where he flew through the air. It wasn’t the most successful block I have ever seen but it was effective enough and showed effort. He had a couple more nice run blocks.

THE BAD:

For the most part he struggled trying to block people. He missed cut blocks, couldn’t hold blocks or just went after the wrong guy to block completely.

Seahawks Quarterback and Running Back Grades Regular Season Game 2011-9

Seahawks Player Grades

Quarterback

Tarvaris Jackson (B)

Last week D

THE GOOD:

Jackson did a nice job staying strong in the pocket and finding open receives with pressure in his face. He was also doing a good job going through his progressions to find an open target. Tarvaris used his feet to avoid pressure including on the 50 yard pass to Doug Baldwin. You may remember last week I knocked him on his first interception when he improperly threw it away into the line and it got tipped up and intercepted, well this week he correctly threw the same pass at the feet of the running back.On 4th and 1 he did a good job finding a small crease on the quarterback sneak.

THE BAD:

At times he struggled with his accuracy and just missed throwing three touchdown. One of them was to Zach Miller and two of them were to Sidney Rice.

Running Back

1) Marshawn Lynch (A)

Last week A+

THE GOOD:

Marshawn was running hard every play keeping his legs driving or breaking tackles to pick up extra yards. He had 100+ yards for the second week in a row (the first time he has accomplished this in his NFL career) and led the team with 58 yards receiving. He had a sick juke move to pick up a first down that left Ray Lewis and Jarret Johnson in a pile wondering where he went. He was also able to pick up a blitz or two on his free time.

THE BAD:

On 3rd down he was close to the marker as he went out of bounds and he didn’t reach the ball in front of him and if he did he would have had a first for sure. One play he had an opening for a couple yards but he tried to break a big play and ended up losing yards because or it. He missed a blitz pick up.

2) Michael Robinson (B)

Last week C+

THE GOOD:

He owned Ray Lewis all game including on the Lynch touchdown and even pancaked him on another play. It was by far his best performance as a Seahawk.

THE BAD:

On one of his blocks on Ray he hit him but didn’t stick with the block and he missed a tackle covering a punt.

3) Leon Washington (C)

Last week C+

4) Justin Forsett (C-)

Last week C+

THE GOOD:

This wasn’t his typical week.

THE BAD:

Justin missed a blitz pick up.

Seahawks Offensive Line Grades Regular Season Game 2011-8

Offensive Line

1) Max Unger (A)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Max was getting good push at the point of attack and at the end of one running play he was pushing the pile trying to pick up a little extra yards. He did a nice job sealing the running lanes and getting to the second level. He did a decent job in pass pro including holding a block for 4+ seconds.

THE BAD:

Haloti Ngata pushed him to the ground on one running play and he couldn’t seal the lane on another. He also got the quarterback hit on one play.

2) Robert Gallery (A-)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Other than a few plays he was solid in all aspects of the game. Robert pushed Haloti Ngata down the field on one play and he is one of the best nose tackles in the game today. He showed a lot of his nastiness today blocking through the end of the whistle.

THE BAD:

He had a couple run blocks that he wasn’t able to hold and they ended with tackles for a short gain. Ray Lewis beat him bad on one play and was able to get a quarterback pressure.

3) Russell Okung and Paul McQuistan (C+)

Last week: Russell B- and Paul was not graded

THE GOOD:

Russell did a pretty good job run blocking. He was sealing running lanes well including on Marshawn Lynch’s touchdown. At times he did a nice job in pass pro including one play where he held his block for 4+ seconds. Paul did a great job sealing the lane on Lynch’s touchdown.

THE BAD:

Okung lost a couple run blocks and struggled blocking at the 2nd level. He tackled a pass rusher and was lucky that he wasn’t called for a holding penalty on the play. Russell got beat on the outside by Terrell Suggs. Okung was also called for a false start.

5) James Carpenter, John Moffitt and Lemuel Jeanpierre (C)

Last week: James C, John D and Lemuel was not graded

Seahawks Defensive Back Grades Regular Season Game 2011-8

Seahawks Player Grades

Cornerback

1) Richard Sherman (B)

Last week A-

THE GOOD:

Richard had multiple plays where he had excellent coverage including a play in the end zone and another where he almost intercepted the ball but Dez Bryant knocked it away. He made a nice open field tackle and laid a big hit on Bryant at the goal line causing him to fumble the ball.

THE BAD:

He missed a couple tackles and was beat deep on one play by Miles Austin.

2) Roy Lewis (B-)

Last week C-

THE GOOD:

In the 2 minute drill he did a great job forcing the receiver inside after he caught the ball to keep the ball running. He also recovered Sherman’s forced fumble.

THE BAD:

Lewis was late in reacting to one route.

3) Brandon Browner and Kennard Cox (C)

Last week: Browner C- and Cox did not get graded

5) Byron Maxwell (D)

Last week C+

THE GOOD:

He usually plays much better than he did against Dallas.

THE BAD:

All of his troubles were on special teams. He had a missed tackle on punt coverage and was called for two Un-sportsman like conduct penalties for running out of bounds and not making an effort to re-establish himself in bounds.

Safety

1) Earl Thomas (A-)

Last week D+

THE GOOD:

Earl Thomas was probably the most sure tackler on the team last Sunday. He made a nice open field tackle, tackle for a short gain and a tackle for a loss. Earl had really good coverage on a couple plays including a play in the end zone. He came close to intercepting a pass that Richard Sherman had broken up.

THE BAD:

Earl Played a solid game.

2) Atari Bigby (C)

Last week C-

3) Kam Chancellor (D+)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Kam had a big hit on a running back and had a tackle for no gain. He had good coverage on a couple play including one where he broke up a pass that Cowboys tight end Jason Witten already had in his hands.

THE BAD:

He struggled a little in coverage and was late getting out to help cover the deep route on one play. He was called for pass interference but I can’t see what he did wrong so I did not dock him for it. Usually a fairly sure tackler, he struggled in Dallas missing several tackles including one where he went through the hole to hit the running back and turned his head away and completely missed the hit.

Seahawks Linebacker Grades Regular Season Game 2011-8

Seahawks Player Grades

Linebacker

1) Leroy Hill (B)

Leroy Hill upset he didn't come down with an interception.

Last week B

THE GOOD:

Leroy recognized a quarterback scramble and made a tackle that saved a touchdown in the first half. He also had a tackle for a loss, a tackle for a short gain and a quarterback pressure.

THE BAD:

Hill got a little too aggressive on one play and over ran the running play.

2) KJ Wright and David Hawthorne (C)

Last week: KJ had a B- and David had a C

4) Heath Farwell (C-)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Malcolm smith had a worse game then him so he didn’t wind up getting the lowest grade.

THE BAD:

He got called for a clear block in the back on a punt return. Worst part was is the block was not necessary.

5) Malcolm Smith (D+)

Last week C

THE GOOD:

He is a rookie and he can look at the game as a learning experience.

THE BAD:

He missed a tackle on a punt coverage and lost outside contain on a running play towards the end of the game.

Seahawks Defensive Line Grades Regular Season Game 2011-8

Seahawks Player Grades

Defensive Line

1) Alan Branch (A)

Last week he led the team with an A+

THE GOOD:

Alan did a great job against the run. He was playing in the Cowboys backfield on several running plays. He did a great job getting his blockers moving laterally to the line of scrimmage leaving the running back no lane to run through. He also showed great backside pursuit. He pressured Tony Romo on one play.

THE BAD:

On one running play he was pancaked.

2) Brandon Mebane and Chris Clemons (B)

Last week: Brandon B and Chris C+

THE GOOD:

Mebane was very strong against the run. He held the point of attack even while being double teamed. He also recorded a tackle for a loss. Clemons did a nice job setting the outside edge and forcing the run back inside where he had help. He did a nice job timing his pass rush when he was lined up in a linebacker position. He had a quarterback pressure.

THE BAD:

Brandon and Chris were two of three lineman who were rushing the passer for 5+ seconds on the Cowboys touchdown and they were not able to get any type of pressure.

4) Red Bryant and Raheem Brock (B-)

Last week they both had an A-

THE GOOD:

Bryant had a quarterback pressure and was able to hold strong at the point of attack. He did a nice job dictating where the blockers where going to go on the field if they wanted to block him. Brock had a quarterback pressure and a quarterback hit.

THE BAD:

Bryant was the third and final pass rusher on the touchdown pass where Romo had 5+ seconds to find an open receiver.

6) Clinton McDonald and Anthony Hargrove (C)

Last week: Clinton B- and Anthony D
