Wide Receiver Grades Preseason Game 2011-2
Aug 25th
Part 5 of 8 of the Seahawks player grades from the Chargers game. Quarterbacks, Offensive Linemen, Running Backs and Tight Ends have already been posted. This is a series that will go position by position, player by player evaluating the single game performance of the players on the Seahawks roster.
We saw the return of Mike Williams and the Seahawks debut of Sidney Rice and Kris Durham. Ben Obomanu remains out but should make his debut this week in Denver.
Wide Receiver
1) Kris Durham (A)
Kris is a rookie 4th round draft choice out of Georgia.
The Good:
As you can see from the picture to the right Durham is a competent blocker. This wasn’t the only time he had a nice block in the game. On the end around by Baldwin he had no trouble blocking the corner down the field. As a receiver he was able to find the soft spot under the coverage and found a way to get open in the end zone. Kris made Charlie Whitehurst look good on a play where he came back toward him and dove for an under thrown ball catching it as he went to the ground. Durham was able to use his body to shield the defender from a ball and had the concentration to make the catch with the corner draped all over him.
THE BAD:
I don’t have anything from last week to compare it to.
2) Doug Baldwin (B+)
Last week he led all receivers with a B.
THE GOOD:
As a kick returner he saw his hole and went for it aggresively. He was a willing participant as a run blocker. Speaking of running he had a nice end around showcasing his speed. He caught the ball with his hands and once secured turned up the field trying to get some YAC (Yards after Catch) yards.
THE BAD:
If you are Deon Butler, Ricardo Lockette or Pat Williams and he continues playing this well your probably going to be released.
3) Sidney Rice (C+)
THE GOOD:
Something I had noticed watching games from his Vikings days was that he is always participating in the running with his blocking and saturday was no exception. When he caught the ball with two defenders around him he was still able to turn and dive between them to pick up extra yardage and avoid a big hit.
THE BAD:
Tarvaris seemed to be trying to force the ball to him and out of 6 targets he only caught 2.
4) Mike Williams, Isaiah Stanback, Chris Carter and Ricardo Lockette (C)
8 ) Golden Tate and Pat Williams (D-)
THE GOOD:
Pat will not be on the final roster.
THE BAD:
Golden took the opening kickoff 6 yards deep in the end zone and hesitated on the return. The result was an opening drive that started at the 11. He cut a 3rd down route short of the 1st down marker giving himself no chance to get the first down. Tate had trouble catching the ball having two drops including one that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Pat hesitated at the top of a route, I’m not sure if he lost focus or forgot what the route was but he seemed lost. He fell down on one route and the ball was almost intercepted. Later he dropped the ball in the picture above.
