Seahawks Player Grades Regular Season 2011-5

Seahawks Player Grades from the Giants game.

First of all let me apologize for not getting the grades done like usually. I have been very sick and unable to sit at the computer to type them out.

I was able to do all the game notes and I have all the information I would normally put out but I think in the interest of getting the grades out I will post the actual grade for every player and if I get a request about why a players grade is what it is I will add to this post.

Thank you all for your patience.

Last week B+

THE GOOD:

Alan spent most of the game in the backfield, although he only recorded one tackle for a loss he disrupted 5 more runs and put pressure on the quarterback 3 times. He showed a little speed in pursuit making a tackle for no gain.

THE BAD:

A lot of fans wont notice how good he is playing because he isn’t putting up big numbers.

2) Clinton McDonald (A-)

Last week he brought up the rear for the unit with a C+

THE GOOD:

Clinton was able to get penetration in the running game a few times including in goal line situations. He was fighting off blocks to make tackles for little to no gain including a play when he was cut down and made the tackle from his knees. He showed his strength fighting off two blockers and still being able to stay in the running lane.

THE BAD:

McDonald had a missed tackle in the game.

3) Brandon Mebane and Raheem Brock (B+)

Last week: Brandon A- and Raheem B-

THE GOOD:

In the beginning of the game he was getting a good jump off the ball. I think he may have figured out a “tell” during film study. He consistently draws double teams and is able to fight them off. He made tackles near the line of scrimmage and moved down the line well to close running lanes. Raheem pressured the quarterback a few times and recorded a quarterback hit. He showed his pursuit ability making a couple tackles including a shoe string tackle on Matt Ryan. He recorded a tackle for a loss.

THE BAD:

Brock was late getting off the ball on 3rd and short he over ran a stunt and left the middle of the line wide open for Ryan to make a big run.

5) Chris Clemons (B-)

Last week he led the group with an A.

THE GOOD:

He was getting a really good jump off the ball and that helped him get into the backfield a few times. He recorded a quarterback hit and a tackle for a loss on a play that he pursued from the backside.

THE BAD:

Chris was fooled by miss direction on Michael Turner’s touchdown run causing him to lose outside contain. Later in the game he was fooled by play action.

Last week A-

Red made some plays but he was very inconsistent and he wore down during the long drives.

Last week A-

THE GOOD:

Chris was after Kevin Kolb all day. He had a couple quarterback pressures including one where he jumped up and deflected the ball. Clemons was also able to hit the quarterback a couple times and added a sack. On third and one he got into the backfield and tackled the running back 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage. He showed awareness not falling for the miss direction and holding the outside contain forcing the running back back inside.

THE BAD:

He had a couple missed tackles and couldn’t get off a block by the tight end.

2) Brandon Mebane and Red Bryant (A-)

Defensive Line

1) Red Bryant (A)

Last week C+

THE GOOD:

Red was playing like a beast fighting off blocks to make tackles and getting penetration at the goal line. When they ran at him he held his ground even while being drawing double teamed they couldn’t move him.

THE BAD:

When he has to take a play off to rest there is no way to fully replace him.

2) Chris Clemons (A-)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Chris was effecting the quarterback in the passing game all day. He had 2 QB pressures, one QB hit and a sack. He was playing a with a bit of nasty in him when he took the lineman and threw him down right after the whistle. Clemons fought of his block to make a tackle on an end around.

THE BAD:

When Chris tried a stunt move he was stonewalled by the guard and later in the game he was 1:1 for 4.5 seconds and got no pressure on the quarterback. He had an offsides penalty on the play where Kam Chancellor almost intercepted the ball.

3) Clinton McDonald (B+)

Last week B-

THE GOOD:

Clinton got under the centers pads and stood him up at the point of attack. He showed he can either hold the point of attack or get push at the point of attack and still come of his block to make a play. He also showed an ability to pursue.

THE BAD:

Nothing stood out.

4) Brandon Mebane and Al Woods (B-)

Last week: Brandon led the line with an A and Al did not play. Al was added September 4th and was a 4th round draft choice of the Saints.

Mebane drew double teams throughout the game keeping his linebackers clean. He showed his awareness when he recognized the end around and assisted in the tackle. Al was able to get some pressure on the quarterback. He showed pursuit ability chasing down the running back from behind on a screen play and drew double teams when they ran at him.

THE BAD:

On the first touchdown Mebane was stood up and pushed into the end zone. He couldn’t fight of a Maurkice Pouncey block and later in the game was pancaked. Towards the end of the game Woods got driven down the field for a few yards by the center.

Last week: Raheem C+, Anthony C+ and Alan B+

Defensive Line Grades Regular Season Game 2011-1

Defensive Line

1) Brandon Mebane (A)

THE GOOD:

Brandon was playing like a beast and there was nothing the offense could do about it. When they tried to run at him he stood the guard up and held his ground so they tried double teaming him and he still was able to hold his ground and plug up the middle. When he wasn’t plugging everything up he was getting penetration in the running game and in short yardage made it almost impossible for the offense to run.

THE BAD:

He only recorded 2 tackles so for those who look at stats to make their assessment his great performance will be lost on them. If he had been able to get pass rush he would have gotten an A+

2) Alan Branch (B+)

THE GOOD:

In the passing game he was able to get a quarterback pressure. Alan made his plays in the running game fighting off blocks including a play near the goal line when the guard attempted to cut him. After he beat the cut he was in pursuit before Earl Thomas came through the line backwards and knocked him off course. The next play he got good penetration and made a tackle for a loss.

THE BAD:

On one play the quarterback held onto the ball for more then 4 seconds and one on one he was not able to get any pressure.

3) Chris Clemons and Clinton McDonald (B-)

THE GOOD:

Chris was doing a good job staying at home on play action and was able to record a hit on the quarterback on one of the plays when the QB rolled out, that was one of his two QB hits. He showed athleticism when he got cut down by the fullback but bounced back up and still made the tackle for a loss. Clinton was able to hold at the point of attack when he was double teamed and on the goal line he was able to get penetration in the running game.

THE BAD:

Clemons was pancaked on a passing play.

5) Red Bryant, Raheem Brock and Anthony Hargrove (C+)

THE GOOD:

Red held his ground at the point of attack. Surprisingly Raheem was more of a factor in the running game than the passing game. On one play he threw down the left tackle and on another play he was able to get penetration to disrupt the play. Anthony showed awareness reading a screen pass well and recording a tackle for a loss. Later in the game he recorded a quarterback hit.

THE BAD:

Brock lost track of the quarterback and because of it the QB was able to scramble for a big gain. Hargrove was called for encroachment on 3rd down and 5 in the red zone.

8 ) Dexter Davis (D+)

THE GOOD:

Unfortunately he was unable to make any above average plays in the game.

THE BAD:

Dexter was out of control running down to cover a punt and was unable to make a play because of it and on the punt return for a touchdown he missed the tackle.

Defensive Line

1) Dexter Davis (B+)

Last week: Dexter did not get graded

THE GOOD:

Davis was a pest to the Raiders quarterbacks while he played. He had a couple quarterback pressures, a quarterback hit and showed his speed chasing the running back down from behind recording a tackle for a loss.

THE BAD:

Dexter will not be facing bottom of the roster guys come the regular season.

2) Clinton McDonald, Pep Levingston and Raheem Brock (B)

Last week: Clinton was a Bengal, Pep B+ and Raheem B-

THE GOOD:

McDonald held at the point of attack in the running game and was able to get pressure in the passing game including a quarterback hit. Levingston showed good awareness (especially for a rookie) sniffing out a screen pass. He showed his pass rush skills recording a quarterback hit and a pressure. Brock got excellent penetration recording a tackle for a loss and having three quarterback pressures with one pass deflection.

THE BAD:

Raheem was either getting tired or being a bit lazy and taking a play off.

5) Alan Branch and David Howard (B-)

Last week: Alan B+ and David C-

THE GOOD:

Branch showed his strength while being double teamed holding strong at the point of attack. He was also able to get penetration in the running game. He showed awareness recognizing a screen pass. Howard was able to get pressure on the quarterback including stripping the ball from his hand while in the pocket. He showed strength by throwing a guard to the ground.

THE BAD:

Alan got pancaked. David did not get consistent pressure and was knocked down in the running game.

7) Brandon Mebane, Maurice Fountain, Jameson Konz, Jimmy Wilkerson and Red Bryant (C+)

Last week: Brandon led the defensive line with a A-, Maurice B, Jameson C+, Jimmy and Red B-

THE GOOD:

Mebane played tough while being double teamed holding his ground at the point of attack. He played low keeping his pad level under the defender allowing him to break through for penetration. Fountain was able to get penetration recording a quarterback pressure and a quarterback hit. Konz showed of his speed in backside pursuit recording a tackle for loss. Wilkerson had a couple plays where he was able to get pressure. Bryant used his strength to move laterally down the line squeezing the running lane closed.

THE BAD:

Unfortunately Maurice was not consistent in his pass rush because he was standing up to high making it easy for the linemen to block him. On one play Jimmy was extremely late off the ball and got absolutely no pass rush. Jimmy ended up getting hurt in the game and placed on IR the next day.

12) Junior Siavii and A.J. Shable (C)

Last week: Junior C- and A. J. B-
